Em cinco cidades portuguesas também houve protesto contra o presidente empossado dos Estados Unidos, Donald Trump, mas com participação reduzida a um milhar de pessoas.
Uma das manifestantes em Washington, Krista Suh, disse estar defendendo os direitos das mulheres:
"When news of the women's march came up I knew immediately I wanted to be here. I feel like there's so much insidious unfairness toward women, it's like this haze that we can't always touch but it's there and obscuring our reason and I want to lift that haze. I think this march is going to be so instrumental and helpful in doing that."
Em Londres, Kasia Staszewska, da Anistia Internacional, falou do protesto de cinco mil mulheres contra Trump.
Elas ficaram alrmadas com as declarações sexistas e ofensivas de Donald Trump:
"We have been alarmed by the comments he made during his election campaign. I am talking about derogatory remarks he made about women, about refugees, about migrants, about Muslims and many other groups of people. And now, when he is president, we are truly hoping that he is going to hear the message that this march is sending to him today. But also to all other leaders around the world, that there's no place for the politics of hate and division and that he needs to take human rights and women's rights seriously."
Donald Trump assumiu na sexta-feira a presidência com um discurso inaugural e disse que vai trazer de volta a força dos Estados Unidos:
"We will bring back our jobs, we will bring back our borders. We will bring back our wealth. And we will bring back our dreams."
Também houve protestos anti-Trump na sexta-feira, durante a posse.
Em alguns deles foram registrados choques violentos, com mais de 215 detentos.
Protestos anti-Trump aconteceram também em cidades de mais de 20 países, incluindo lugares como Antártica, Bangkok e Londres.
Em Sydney, a manifestação foi no Hyde Park.
Uma das co-organizadoras, Erin Riley, disse que o protesto era contra as posições do novo presidente dos Estados Unidos.
"I think it says that we, as a group, are united behind certain values. And those values are tolerance, inclusion, and diversity. And I think that we're saying we won't be silenced. That we will watch, that we will speak out. And...we're not going to go down without a fight."
