The National Broadband Network, or NBN, is a new way to bring internet and phone services to Australians.

The National Broadband Network, or NBN, is a new way to bring internet and phone services to Australians.

By 2020, most homes and businesses will be connected to it.

... is looking at what you need to know before switching to the NBN and how to find the best plan.

We’ve been hearing about the switch to the NBN for several years in Australia.

Some homes and businesses are already connected, while others are still waiting to be connected.

Tony Brown is a spokesperson for the NBN Co, the company in charge of the NBN rollout.

"The NBN is a new network that is being built out right across Australia that will cover virtually every home and business in the country. By 2020, we will have services available to around eleven and a half million premises right across the country. That will use a variety of technologies. Some of them will be fixed line technologies and others will be wireless technologies such as fixed wireless and for remote places. We will use satellite to reach those more remote locations in the country."

The government decided to roll out the NBN so that all Australians, no matter where they lived, could have access to the same basic service.

Teresa Corbin is the CEO of the Australian Communications Consumer Action Network.

She explains that the NBN is a modernisation of the current fixed telephone and internet network.
