Ben Bowen CEO of Indigenous Literacy Foundation (ILF), talked to NITV Radio about the celebrations of the Indigenous Literacy Day, but also about Indigenous kids’ literacy and books that ILF helps to produce and publish. “We focus on strengths”, says Ben Bowen, who is a descendent of the Wiradjuri Nation with family links to the Gandangara, Dharrawal and Yuin Nations.
The Indigenous Literacy Day, celebrated on September 4th, is a day with events held across the country and online. The main attraction this year is a 45-minute livestream from the Sydney Opera House, hosted by Indigenous Literacy Foundation’s Ambassadors, including Jessica Mauboy, Bianca Hunt, Gregg Dreise and others. The showcase is a celebration of language, art and storytelling.
This year’s theme is Be A Proud Voice for Country and the ILF is inviting the audience to join them for a visit into three First Nations Communities across Australia and a launch of three books.
