Mr Patrick Ferry, Assistant State Manager of National Archives Victoria speaks with Joe Axiaq about a project that sees Maltese volunteers visit National Archives Victoria Office in North Melbourne every fortnight to work on Maltese migration records.

Originally these records were bundled together by voyage, making them hard to find in National Archives’ database. The volunteers repackage and describe each individual or family’s records so they can be located by name on RecordSearch, including applications for migration to Australia, medical and radiology reports, police clearances and black-and-white photograph.
Since June 2023, the volunteers have helped repackage and describe over 2,600 individual items from 10 migration voyages.
