With batik-themed costumes, guitar strumming and a distinctive vocalist's voice, the Semarang-based music group Soegi Bornean was the opening performer at SXSW's Touchdown Under 2023 in Sydney. This is their story about the musical journey that brought them to their first international stage.

A folk band from Semarang that mixes Javanese and Kalimantan characters in its music, Soegi Bornean, did not expect to get the opportunity to play on the international festival stage in Australia.

Bagas, Fanny and Aditya, told SBS Indonesian how they felt about performing at Touchdown Under - which is part of the South by Southwest SXSW event - in Sydney, what their musical journey was like and what the challenges were.
