Millions of Muslims will commemorate the holiday of Kurban or Eid al-Adha this weekend, starting June 16, 2024.

The Feast of Sacrifice - known as Eid al-Adha - is a major four-day Islamic celebration and coincides with the end of the Hajj, the annual pilgrimage to Mecca in Saudi Arabia, which every Muslim is expected to perform at least once in their lifetime. - if they are financially capable; and physically able to travel.

The celebration of Eid al-Adha commemorates the story of sacrifice and belief that Christians and Jews also share.

The Islamic version pays homage to the actions of the Prophet Ibrahim when he was ordered to sacrifice his son Ismail in a test of his faith.

Imam Alaa Elzokm of the Elsedeaq Heidelberg Mosque in Melbourne said one of the messages he would convey to worshippers worshiping at Heidelberg's Elsedeaq Mosque was not only the importance of maintaining good relations with one's own family and friends, but also with non-Muslim friends.

He said Australia's response to the conflict in Gaza had demonstrated the importance of the relationship.
