Former governor of Papua and corruption case defendant Lukas Enembe dies, how do people and families respond?

The inactive governor of Papua who was also convicted of a corruption case, Lukas Enembe, died while undergoing legal proceedings in Jakarta. Various responses emerged regarding his death.


The inactive Governor of Papua, who was also convicted in a corruption case, Lukas Enembe, died in the middle of the legal process after being arrested by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).

Lukas Enembe is the defendant in a number of cases with state losses reaching billions of rupiah.

According to official information, he is experiencing kidney failure. His funeral process caused turmoil in Jayapura where Lukas Enembe was seen as a big man, a tribal figure and not a corruptor.

SBS Indonesian's correspondent, Nurhadi Sucahyo spoke to Human rights activist and priest, Matius Murib, who accompanied Lukas Enembe's family after his death at the Gatot Subroto Army Central Hospital in Jakarta.

Mr Murib told several things regarding the response of the family and Papuan people themselves to this death.
