Pelangi Indonesia School has been operating in the State of New South Wales, Australia, for more than 10 years.

Pelangi Indonesia School, an initiative of the Indonesian-Australian community in New South Wales, began its journey in early 2011 under the organisation Indonesian-Australian Families Association of New South Wales Incorporated (IAFA Inc.).

Promoted by pioneers such as Jon Soemarjono (†) and Amrizal Zein (†), Sekolah Indonesia Pelangi stands as an answer to the need for Indonesian language and cultural education in Australia. Also involved were Mrs. Gustinia Dauner, Mr. Ruslan Pandapotan and Mrs. Epy Djulianti.

Thanks to the hard work of the volunteers and the support of the community, the school has grown into a solid educational institution.

Originating from a small class at Leumeah High School, the school has now grown rapidly with branches at Smith's Hill High School, Wollongong, and Kogarah High School.

Supported by the New South Wales government since 2012, Sekolah Indonesia Pelangi has become home to hundreds of students from a variety of backgrounds. With a curriculum tailored to NSW education standards, the school not only teaches Indonesian, but also enriches students' understanding of Indonesia's rich culture.

SBS Indonesian spoke with Ms Epy Djulianti, Head of Pelangi Indonesia School.

As Principal, Epy Djulianti, explained that the main goal of the school is to preserve Indonesian language and culture amidst Australia's multicultural society with diverse ethnic, linguistic and religious backgrounds.

The age of the students of Sekolah Indonesia Pelangi is diverse, from pre-school, kindergarten, to grade 12 and adult participants.

By adopting the Indonesian K-10 Syllabus (2018) curriculum from the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA), the school ensures that students receive an education that is quality and relevant to Australian education standards.

The students not only learn the language, but also experience first-hand the beauty of Indonesian culture through a variety of exciting extracurricular activities, such as music and traditional dance.
