Pritpal Singh was sleeping in his house in Tarneit in Melbourne’s West when a gang of four armed robbers broke into his house on Sunday morning.

7 News reported that Singh with his wife and 17-month-old son were asleep in their bedroom when this gang broke the glass of their rear window and ransacked their kitchen before fleeing with a Holden car, car keys of a second car, Pritpal’s wallet and jewellery from the dining room.

Pritpal Singh told 7 News that robbers were armed with knives and meat cleavers.

When he saw the gang in the kitchen, he ran to his bedroom and locked himself. The thieves followed him and broke the door as Pritpal tried to protect his child and wife from them.

"You ask yourself what's your priority... save your family or confront them and get physical," said Pritpal.
Several Indian Australian families in Melbourne have recently faced carjackings and home invasions which have considerably left the families and the community concerned.

The Victorian government recently introduced laws where armed robbers and carjackers could face upto 25 years in jail.
