Recently, New Zealand celebrated 75 years marking the intake of first women officers in the police force.
In 1941, ten women joined the boys in blue and thus began the women's division.
Police Commissioner Mike Bush says - "Nearly 20 percent of constabulary staff are now women and we have set an aspirational target of 50 percent, over time".
"I am committed to providing a workplace and culture that supports our talented and committed female staff throughout their career", he added.
Here’s an international comparison of female officer numbers -
- Canada - 34 percent.
- England -- 28 percent.
- Australia -- 22 percent.
- Singapore -- 19 percent.
- US -- 12 percent.
- China -- 11 percent.
- Japan – 4 percent.
- India – 2 percent.
But, the most amazing thing to see during these celebrations was the bhangra performed by Henderson Police.
