“Every year some important changes are made to visa conditions and occupations at various levels. This year the major changes that are going to affect the masses are coming from the Department of Jobs and Small Business,” says Melbourne based Migration and Education Expert Chaman Preet.
The Department has a 'traffic light bulletin' for public comment on proposed changes to the skilled occupations lists.
While the list includes some popular occupations such as Middle School Teacher, Textile Clothing and Footwear Mechanic, and Insurance Loss Adjustor - it also features some less popular occupations too, including Watch and Clock Maker and Repairer and Footballer.
However, one occupation might affect a large number of visa hopefuls, according to Ms Preet.
“Many people were concerned about Management Accountant. This can be moved to short-term list from medium-term list. Removal of Agricultural Consultant and Civil Engineer is also going to affect many,” says Preet.
Moving an occupation from one list to another may change the eligibility criteria which could result in extra effort on the applicant’s part.
Migration agent Rohit Mohan of Lakshya Migrations finds moving the occupation of Dentist from the Short-Term Skilled Occupation List (SOL) to the Regional Occupation List interesting.
He says, “If this happens, many Indians are going to take a hit as the number of dentists willing to migrate to Australia is very high. However, I think it is a good move as it will increase the chances provided people are ready to move to regional areas.”
The final list will be out in July.
