Queensland rolls out migration program for skilled workers, graduates and business owners in 2022-23

The Queensland government has announced that its migration program for 2022-23 is now open to all skilled workers, including those from offshore. Graduates and small business owners are also encouraged to submit an expression of interest (EOI) from 16 August 2022.

For the Skilled Migration program, the agency said it would only accept brand new EOIs submitted on Skillselect from 16 August 2022.

"Updating existing EOIs submitted prior to the 16 August 2022 will not be invited," the agency mentioned.

The agency further asked applicants to ensure that they carefully read and understand the new criteria relevant to their stream or pathway, and that they meet criteria before submitting an EOI.

This 2022-23 financial year Skilled Migration Program will be open to both onshore and offshore applicants, and provide pathways for skilled workers, graduates, and small business owners.

For the Business Migration program, the agency invited applicants for the Subclass 188 - Business Innovation stream, 188 – Investor stream and 188 – Significant Investor stream.

From 16 August 2022, the new 188 – Entrepreneur stream will also open, it said.

The total number of places allocated to Queensland for the 2022-23 migration program year is 4,435.

"Skilled Nominated visa (subclass 190) has 3,000 seats while Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) visa (subclass 491) has been allocated 1,200 seats," Department of Home Affairs told SBS Hindi.

The Business Innovation and Investment Program (subclass) 188 has been given 235 places for the current financial year.
The Department said that the 2022-23 nomination allocations were made following consultation with state and territory governments, and taking into account the total number of applications already on hand. 

"Of the 193,639 expressions of interest for State and Territory Government Nominated visa subclasses, which were lodged during 2021-22, 16,515 expressed a specific interest in Queensland," the DHA said.
According to migration expert Seema Chauhan, the news is exciting especially for offshore applicants.

"Post COVID-19, the state has opened for the first time for offshore applicants. Skilled workers can apply under two categories, Subclass 190 (Skilled Nominated) visa and 491 (Skilled Work Regional - Provisional) visa," Ms Chauhan said.
