28-year-old migration agent Abel Kalpinand Prasad has admitted to stealing thousands from an international student, Jaspal Marok by supplying him a counterfeit visa.
While he is being investigated, by the Australian Border Force, over allegations that he promised 20 international students jobs in his three companies and supplied them with false working visas, on Friday, he also admitted to defrauding the Australian Taxation Office of almost $100,000, in Adelaide Magistrates Court.
It is alleged that Mr. Prasad floated several companies between April 2010 and July 2015 and obtained GST payments by falsifying invoices during these years.
He was charged with 22 counts of obtaining financial advantage by deception and one count of giving false information to a commonwealth entity.
Prasad was arrested in Brisbane in November 2015 and was refused bail.
On Friday, he pleaded guilty to obtaining $75,934 from the ATO and attempting another $38,455, in GST payments.
He also pleaded guilty to taking $33,000 from Jaspal Marok, an international student in return for providing a counterfeit working visa.
Following this, a plea bargain was brokered and prosecutors withdrew the remaining 18 counts.
Prasad has been remanded in custody and will face district court in July.
