Gurpreet (her last name has been kept under wraps) alongwith her eight-year-old daughter went to Germany in 2015 in search of her long-lost husband and in-laws. She hoped to be reunited with them. But her dreams were shattered when she was dumped at a refugee camp in Germany by her own family.

Gurpreet then shot a video and pleaded with the Indian government that she wanted to return to her home in Faridabad, Haryana.
The video reached her family members and relatives. Soon India’s Ministry of External Affairs received the news of Gurpreet and her daughter.
Sushma Swaraj, the Minister of External Affairs, swung into action and directed the Consul General in Frankfurt to help the mother-daughter duo.
The Ambassador of India to Germany - Gurjit Singh and the Consul General of Frankfurt - Raveesh Kumar then contacted Gurpreet at the refugee camp and brought her to the Consulate. Putting out the good news External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj on Wednesday tweeted: "We have brought Gurpreet and her 8 year old daughter from the refugee camp to our Consulate in Frankfurt."
Ambassador Gurjit Singh, today early morning, tweeted to say that Gurpreet and her daughter were on their way to India.
