For 13th time in a row, an Indian-origin kid has won the US National Spelling Bee competition

12-year-old Indian origin girl, Ananya Vinay won the Scripps National Spelling Bee on Thursday in US.

California based Vinay took home USD 40,000 cash prize after she correctly spelled the marocain to win the competition.

"It's like a dream come true. I am so happy right now," she told ESPN after the competition.

The top three winners of the competition are all Indian-origin kids. Ananya beat another Indian origin contestant, 14-year-old Rohan Rajeev from Oklahoma and Mira Dedhia finished third. 

US National Spelling Bee contest sees children aged between 6 and 15 from all across US.

reports Ananya is the 13th consecutive Indian-origin American kid to win the bee and the 18th of the past 22 winners with Indian heritage, a run that began in 1999 with Nupur Lala’s victory.
