Indian police have registered a case against Australia based NRI, S* Singh and his Punjab-based parents, his sister and another relative for allegedly duping a girl of Rs 30 lakh on pretext of marriage, The Tribune reports.
Police have arrested Singh’s parents based in Talwandi Sabo, a town near Bhatinda, Punjab.
The girl in her complaint, has alleged that Singh’s parents sent a proposal for their son’s marriage to her through a relative last year.
The girl told the police the couple demanded Rs 28-30 lakh in form of dowry to which her family agreed.
The girl has alleged that his family took Rs 15 lakhs from them before Singh arrived for their engagement in India.
The girl was engaged to Singh at a hotel in Punjab on 25th December last year where Singh’s family allegedly demanded a further Rs 10 lakh to process her documents for going to Australia.
A fake marriage ceremony was held on January 20th this year to prepare the girl’s documents to travel to Australia, following which she started living with him.
Singh returned to Australia with promise to come back and publicly marry her.
However, the complainant was sent back to her parents’ house. The boy's family told girl's father that his daughter was mentally-ill, the girl has alleged.
Assistant Sub-Inspector Amrik Singh who is investigating the case told The Tribune that a complaint had been registered and Singh’s parents had been arrested.
