Organisers of the Victorian Jewish Community Bushfire Appeal that has so far raised more than $2.6m, David Smorgon, Ruth Alter and Ian Davis, visited the badly effected town of Corryong in Northern Victoria and met with the stoic local community members and local school principal and parents and told them that $1m of those funds will go to students to help them get back to school as soon as possible.

The Jewish National Fund (JNF) in Victoria has announced that half of the funds raised in their  annual Green Appeal on the 16th February, will this year be directed to supporting wildlife and nature recovery efforts in the bushfire ravaged areas of Australia

The Victorian Liberal and National Opposition Parties have officially adopted a policy of supporting a ban on all public displays of the Nazi swastika symbols, as the Victorian Labor Government waits for the outcome of a review into hate speech under way in the State Parliament before considering any further bans or changes to police powers.

There was an outpouring of condolences and praise from the highest echelons of Australian and Jewish leadership, for the much loved and respected Jewish journalist and CEO of the Australian Jewish News, Joshua Levi e”h, who died suddenly at the premature age of 36 years.
