The “Laika” or “Songs of the People” genre is best described as the transition period of music that drew on the traditional elements of folk music which were then interpreted in a contemporary way.
This seminar will focus on “palia laika” and on songs of the 50’s and 60’s that best represent this genre and era and on the performers, composers, lyricists and pay special attention to the women who interpreted these songs in a unique way.
