For the podcast series “Fall of the Wall: 35 Years of Freedom and Change” SBS reporter Benjamin Kanthak spoke with journalist Alexandra Falk about the aftermath of the historic event and the need for a new understanding of people in the new federal states of Germany.
Alexandra Falk lives in Wellington, New Zealand, where she works as a freelance journalist for various German media outlets. She is also part of the “Wir sind der Osten” initiative, which promotes a new awareness of East Germany and highlights the prospects and challenges of the region.
In the run-up to the 35th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, she curated the exhibition “Berlin Wall Stories” at the German Embassy in Wellington. The project presents ten stories of ten different people whose lives are linked to the fall of the Wall.
