A campaign to recruit underrepresented migrant communities in Australia is underway to expand the genetic database. This will improve the diagnosis, treatment, and care of Australia's multicultural population.

Key Points
  • Initially focusing on seven migrant communities including Filipino, Vietnamese. Samoan, Fijian, Tongan, Lebanese, and Sudanese
  • It needs sample of 1,000 for every community.
  • The study is currently limited to NSW and Victoria.
A blood sample is needed from every participant in the it will assist in expanding the DNA database. It will assist in better diagnosis, treatment, and care of rare diseases.

There are long-term benefits not just for my generation, my children's generation but also for my grandchildren's generation. They need our knowledge, as first-generation migrants and seniors to assist in filling in the gaps, and background history of our parents, and grandparents. Our historical (medical) background is as significant as our blood sample. It will assist in providing sufficient information about our genetic background.
