While many Christian faithful see the Lenten season as their holiest week, many Filipino families both in Australia or the Philippines, make the most of their time to come together and be with family. Going to church is just one norm, gathering with food is another.

Key Points
  • In many countries that commemorate the Holy Week, there's usually no school, like in Australia where the long weekend is extended to Easter Monday; in the Philippines, it's normally a week-long event.
  • An estimated 39,000 to 44,000 people a day are expected to arrive in the Philippines this Holy Week apart from several thousands who travel locally to be with family.
  • Food is almost always present in any Filipino gathering - you can expect the all-time favourites like lechon and lumpia on the table. Easter chocolates and hot cross buns are popular in Australia.
