The $1,100 one-off payment is available to students in need or who have lost their jobs due to the pandemic.
The Victorian Government recognises the international student sector’s contribution to the state and they will continue to provide support for overseas students that have been affected by the pandemic
“International students give so much to Victoria – it’s only fair we support them in their hour of need,” says Minister for Jobs, Innovation and Trade Martin Pakula in a statement.
Apart from the relief package, they may be able to access rent relief, including subsidies of up to $2,000, if eligible. Additionally, those legally allowed to work in Victoria are eligible for the Working for Victoria initiative, which helps people who have lost their jobs to find new employment.
Up to 40,000 students enrolled in Victoria universities, TAFEs, private vocational education and training providers and English language colleges could benefit from the relief payment, which covers demonstrated lost income up to $1,100.
