Costs for driving exams vary from state to state.
Here are the three exams you need to pass in order to obtain an Australian licence:
1. Driver Knowledge Test (DKT)
The Driver Knowledge Test (DKT) is the first exam you need to take in order to obtain a driver's licence in Australia.
This test is based on theory, and is presented as a multiple-choice type quiz.
There are multiple sources online which have practice tests of the DKT.
Passing this exam will result in obtaining a learner's permit.
2. Hazard Perception Test
The Hazard Perception Test (HPT) is a touch-screen exam that will test your ability to not only pinpoint risks and dangerous situations while driving, but also how to respond.
For those who already have a valid Philippine licence, you will no longer have to go through 'P1' plates if they pass this test. You may proceed to the Practical Driving Assessment as soon as you are ready.
3. Practical Driving Assessment
This could be perceived as the most intimidating exam you have to take.
As stated by Victorian driving instructor Noel Tolentino, “Pagdating sa driving test, you have to be spot-on kasi yung nanghuhuli nasa loob na ng kotse.”
The Practical Driving Assessment will test you on your general driving abilities, as well as your observation skills, attitude, ability to deal with hazards and potentially dangerous situations, parking skills, and others.
Do take note that the car you use in the exam will have to be road-worthy and ready for driving.
While passing this exam means obtaining an Australian licence, failing it will mean you will no longer be able to drive with your Philippine licence. You will have to hold a learner’s permit again, and you cannot drive alone until you pass the practical exam.
