Have you ever seen a snake in the grass?
Many people are wary of snakes, but they are an important part of the Australian eco-system and are protected by law.
Let’s learn how to live with snakes.

Snakes
Snakes are found across Australia, even in the water!
Snakes can often be found in suburbs and bushland near our homes.
Sometimes we mistake lizards for snakes.
But you can tell the difference.
A snake has no ear openings and no legs.
There are over one hundred species of snakes in Australia.
Many Australian snakes, like pythons, are not venomous.
But some snakes are very venomous.
The eastern brown snake can be deadly, and you must stay away.
If you stay well away from snakes they will not harm you.
The eastern brown snake is found on the east coast and parts of South Australia and the Northern Territory.
If you see a snake in your backyard, do not panic.
The snake should leave in a few hours.
Keep pets and children far away from it and allow the snake to move on.
If you keep your grass short and clear of rubbish, snakes will not want to be there.
If you find a snake in your house, move to another room, close the door, and put a towel at the bottom of the door.
Then call a wildlife expert who will help you.
Never try to catch or kill a snake.
Most snake bites happen this way.
Snakes want to avoid humans and will move away quickly if they can.
