Stay at home rules currently apply to those living in Greater Sydney including the Blue Mountains and Wollongong local government areas but as vaccination rates increase, some restrictions are being eased.
From 20th September the 12 Local Government Areas (LGAs) of concern in western and southwestern Sydney follow the for Greater Sydney, except for the list of authorised workers and the associated permits.
- No limit on the duration of outdoor exercise and recreation.
- Outdoor gatherings of up to five fully vaccinated people (not including children aged 12 and under) will be allowed in a person’s LGA or within 5km of home.
- Shopping, exercise and outdoor recreation can be done 5km from home or within your LGA.
- Attend a small wedding (maximum 11 people) in Greater Sydney as a guest.
- A person’s single’s bubble buddy can live in Greater Sydney. A person from a LGA of concern can also now be a buddy for someone in Greater Sydney.

Regional NSW
Some parts of regional NSW which are considered low risk and which have seen no COVID cases for at least 14 days emerged from lockdown on 11th September but will continue to operate under some restrictions.
- Up to five visitors will be allowed in a home (not including children 12 and under).
- Up to 20 people can gather in outdoor settings.
- Venues including hospitality, retail stores and gyms can open subject to restrictions.

More restrictions lifted at 70 and 80 per cent vaccination
As vaccination coverage improves, more restrictions could be lifted for those who have had both doses.
The NSW government says when 70 per cent of the population has been fully vaccinated, “a range of family, industry, community and economic restrictions” will be lifted for those who have had both doses.
"Stay-at-home orders for adults who have received both doses of the COVID-19 vaccine will be lifted from the Monday after NSW passes the 70 per cent double vaccination target," it says.
Only fully vaccinated people and those with medical exemptions will have access to the 'freedoms' allowed under the .
At 80 per cent full vaccination there will be further easing of restrictions on industry, community and the economy. Details are still being worked out.
