中方則會以南海艦隊兵力為主，出動多艘艦艇、潛艇、定翼機、海軍陸戰隊及兩棲裝甲裝備，演練項目會包括對海上目標進行聯合導彈及炮彈打擊，此外， 亦會進行海軍陸戰隊和空降部隊搶佔島嶼的立體登陸演習。
中國海軍表示，演習旨在鞏固發展中俄全面戰略協作夥伴關係，進一步提高中俄海軍海上聯合防衛行動組織指揮水平。
今次是中俄連續第五年舉行聯合海上演習，亦是規模最大的一次。

中俄兩國海軍將於今天起在廣東湛江以東的南海水域舉行為期八日、代號為「海上聯合-2016」的聯合軍事演習。
