A refugee employment program has helped secure jobs for almost a quarter of its clients.
Community organisation Settlement Services International delivers the program in New South Wales and says the 25 per cent employment rate is cause for celebration.
It says the result compares favourably to previous efforts - a survey in 2013 by the Department of Social Services found that 18 months after arriving in Australia, only 17 per cent of refugees were in paid employment.
Chief Executive of Settlement Services International Violet Roumeliotis says the program recognises that humanitarian entrants are not a homogenous group.
