2nd death anniversary of Dr Abdul Huq who served the Bangla Community in Australia

Late Dr Abdul Haq was known for his dedication and service to the humanity, more specifically for his service towards the Bangla-speaking Community in Australia. Today is the 2nd death anniversary of this great man.


Dr Abdul Haq was born to a respectable Muslim family in Manik Gonj, Bangladesh, in 1949. He is the second of the nine brothers and sisters. He completed his schooling in Chittagong and obtained the degree of BSc Engineering from the Bangladesh University of Engineering & Technology (BUET) in 1971. He did his Masters and PhD at the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), Bangkok. Thereafter, he took up a teaching position at the King Abdul Aziz University, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia in 1981. He along with his family moved to Australia in 1991.

Soon after Dr Haq arrived in Australia he participated in various activities of the Blacktown City Council and started engaging the Bangla-speaking Community with the various arms of the local governments.

He will be remembered for raising funds for the Westmead Children Hospital and for the NSW Cancer Council through Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea endeavours. He played a key role to raise money for establishing a mosque in the Western Sydney and finally the Quakers Hill Mosque was built. He worked tirelessly with others to establish the Riverstone Muslim Graveyard.

Dr Haq undertook a commitment of raising $250,000 for the Ahsania Mission Cancer Hospital, Dhaka under the banner of the Bangladesh Forum for Community Engagement.
