Ingredients
Hot dogs
- 12 mini par-bake rolls
- 12 mini hot dogs (see note)
- Tomato sauce
Fairy bread
- 1 loaf white sliced sandwich or toast bread
- Spreadable butter, at room temperature
- Hundreds and thousands
Instructions
- For the hot dogs, preheat the oven to 200˚C.
- Spread the par-bake rolls out on a baking tray and cook for slightly longer than the recommended cooking time. (You want them to get a tiny burnish on them, not be completely white.)
- Meanwhile, boil the kettle, then pour the boiling water into a saucepan. Add the mini hot-dogs and stand for about 8 minutes or until heated through. You basically want to warm them without boiling the crap out of them because if you boil them, they’ll split and they’re already cooked so just need heating.
- If you’re taking these to a party or picnic, store the warmed up dogs in a soup/casserole thermos. (Pre-heat it by pouring in a few cups of boiling water from the kettle.) Cut the par-bake rolls open without going all the way through. I usually do this in rubber gloves so I don’t burn my hands. Serve to starving kids with lashings of sauce. Adults may want a little delectable slice of posh butter in the roll to help it go down.
- For the fairy bread, have a giant platter ready and standing by. Butter the bread generously. If you have bigger kids in your house, they can do this. Sprinkle the hundreds and thousands over the bread, then cut in half on the diagonal and arrange on the platter. Cover until ready to serve. Prepare for the adults to groan in appreciation.
Note:
- Vegan hotdogs are perfectly ok, and in fact, may be preferable.
