Desk lunches aren’t always the most inspiring (but stick with us here - inspiration coming right up).
Now, we're all for creativity - heck, we all know sometimes it can be difficult to pinpoint exactly what you want, we’ve all been there. Tapping at your keyboard, looking around to see who is meeting, eating or heating in the cafe lines and work kitchens around at that it-must-be-lunchtime-soon-hour. The casual conversation that ensues of “What do you feel like”?
I’m Farah and I could really go a Korean BBQ made-to-order, with a selection of side bowls brimming with condiments, kimchi and chilli sauces to boot.
Admittedly, this is not a very desk-friendly lunch. One, who has the space? Two, no, really who has the space? And three, if you’re in an open plan office, you’ve got to make sure you’ve nailed your lunchtime selection to eating etiquette ratio. Even soups, curries, stacked Reuben sandwiches and burgers can even seem like a slightly adventurous lunch option. It’s important to have a napkin handy in anticipation for those fortunate moments when you take a bite, a slurp or scoop and boom, disaster drops, all over your keyboard, your notebook, your shirt, down your face and of course at that precise moment your co-worker looks directly at you.
A skilled few have the desk lunch nailed.
Enter , one Chinese woman who really taps into the “life is too short to eat boring lunches” approach, all the while not caring what anyone in her office thinks. Preach!
In her very own lunch series, thankfully all on video, Ms Yeah puts together epic feasts with the office equipment she finds around her workplace. Some of the feasts she has on the lunch planner include roast beef, steamed buns, roast chicken and these feasts that all use her office facilities:
DIY knitted noodle
Steaming your own hotpot in the office water dispenser
When your desk fan steams buns!
Crisp crepes thansk to your computer case
In need of an afternoon sugar hit? Waffles and tea, thank you hair tools.
Perfect for those office birthdays when you're in need of a cake. Plus, you know it's fresh!
How does she clean it all up?
Not sure what impresses me most, the creativity and execution of eating what she wants at her desk; that her coworkers are oblivious to it all; or that she has managed to do this more than, once whilst still keeping her job and not burning down the office.
Either way, respect.
