A gang of Canadian thieves have been busted with $5 million of stolen cars, drugs, cash and firearms - and $30,000 worth of Nutella.

Police from York, Ontario found the truckload full of jars of the chocolate-hazlenut spread when they raided a warehouse and car garage owned by alleged criminal mastermind Balwinder Dhaliwal, known as the "King of Car Thieves".

The truck load of Nutella was stolen and then sold for about 50 cents on the dollar, police told the

More than 137 charges have reportedly been laid against a group of 23 people, after an investigation into a single car theft uncovered a tangled web of crime that included importing cocaine, and shipping stolen cars to places including the Dominican Republic and Guyana.

"If there was a profit to be made by this group, this group would jump on the opportunity," Det Sgt LaSalle said.

"I've never seen an investigation that did spiral into so many directions."

Twitter users have reacted to the news with amusement.
