Host Raksha Burman with Bollywood film director Anupam Sharma

Join host Raksha Burman in conversation with Anupam Sharma, film director and advocate for diversity in Australian media. Anupam shares childhood memories of Diwali sights, sounds and smells, and talks about how they've influenced his contemporary celebrations.

The festive season triggers memories of a childhood spent celebrating Diwali in India for film director Anupam Sharma.

The smell of mustard oil lamps and sulphur from firecrackers, the flickering of diyas and Diwali lights, the sounds of rockets wooshing, crackers bursting and the deep frying of kachoris.

Anupam loves the time leading up to Diwali, the process of decluttering the home and office, removing the unwanted so that new energy and abundance can come in.

Anupam also talks about his newly released documentary about Bollywood. He sees the Indian film industry as an example of how linguistically diverse stories can be told and celebrated in a supportive industry.
